Occupational Therapy Support for Children with Autism / Neurodiversity.
At Treasured Tamariki, we recognise that every child’s journey is unique — especially for those on the autism spectrum. Occupational therapy (OT) is a powerful tool that supports children in building essential life skills, fostering independence, and thriving in daily routines.
Occupational therapy focuses on helping tamariki with areas such as fine and gross motor development, sensory processing, communication, emotional regulation, self-care skills (like dressing, eating, and hygiene), and social interaction. By tailoring support to each child’s needs, OT empowers children to participate more fully in home life, learning, play, and the wider world around them.
For children with autism/neurodiversity, this might involve:
Strengthening coordination, balance, and motor skills
Supporting sensory needs to help with regulation and focus
Encouraging independence in activities like dressing and feeding
Building emotional resilience and managing transitions
Enhancing social skills and fostering positive relationships
If your child would benefit from an occupational therapy assessment, we can help guide you through the process and connect you with trusted professionals who specialize in working with young children.
At Treasured Tamariki, we believe every child deserves the tools and support they need to shine.
Disclaimer:
For our Treasured Whānau enrolled under the 50 Free Hours of Childcare programme, most occupational therapy services are included at no extra cost. For community members who are not enrolled in our childcare services, occupational therapy support is available for an additional fee. Please contact us for full details.
